Friendship

Neighbors have their noses up in your business.

Neighbors have their noses up in your business.

A rustle of blinds at the break of the day,
A curtain pulled back just a fraction away.
They water the sidewalk, they sweep up the street,
While counting the cars and the folks that you meet.
With radar-like ears and a stare that is keen,
They’re living their lives on a movie-set screen—
Yet eager to gossip and stir up a fuss,
They’ve made your whole world an anonymous bus.

So lock up the deadbolt and double the gate,
And smile as you wave to the folks at the plate;
For though they’re a nuisance, so nosy and bold,
There’s safety in numbers when stories are told.

Let cameras record every shadow that falls,
And sensors keep watch on the perimeter walls,
For peace of mind grows where the watchful eyes roam:
It takes a whole village to safeguard a home.
