Mumps. Apparently, it\'s a virus that mostly affects babies and young children, but it does affect adults and there\'s a vaccine for it. I guess my mother missed a few appointments along the way. Down the drain. Now I\'m 20 years old, a big girl, soon to be 21, dealing with something I probably should\'ve been vaccinated against. It\'s pretty contagious, and apparently, it can make boys really sick, sometimes even affecting their fertility. Yeah, it\'s hectic.
The doctor advised me to isolate myself in a completely dark room for seven days. Basically, just stay there and SLEEP.
Now, the pain is one thing, but I swear I almost lost my sanity. And I mean that. As someone who is constantly moving around, keeping busy just so I don\'t have to sit with my thoughts, this was probably one of the hardest things I\'ve had to do.
Not being able to do absolutely anything you love is such a horrible feeling. Because that\'s when the overthinking starts. You start questioning everything. The why, the where, the when. You create all these scenarios in your head, trying to make sense of things, trying to put pieces together that probably don\'t even belong together. And the more you think, the more frustrated you become. I hated feeling so helpless. I hated that being forced to do nothing could affect me this much. So I did what I thought was best. I tried to sleep it all away.
I always thought I could handle everything on my own. I thought I didn\'t need anyone to make me happy. I thought being alone was exactly what I wanted. Turns out, I was wrong. Very wrong.
Because as much of an introvert as I am, I LOVE people. I love company. I love my family. I love being able to do the things I enjoy. I love being crazy and goofy. I love having people worry about me. I even love being shouted at or yelled at sometimes. It\'s funny how you end up missing the very things you probably took for granted.
I probably sound crazy, but I realised that I really don\'t enjoy being alone as much as I thought I did. I miss everyone. I miss the hugs, the kisses, the little conversations, the noise, the company. And mostly, I miss him.
Don\'t get mumps, guys. Seriously. It will drive you insane.
They always say there\'s beauty in the little things, and I totally agree. Funny enough, I never thought I\'d say this, but I guess I\'m not as much of a rain person as I thought I was. Maybe I do love the sun after all.
Sometimes you don\'t realise how much you love the little things until you have no choice but to live without them for a while.
