Happiness, The Mystery

I’ve tried understanding

Some, what I believe to be, important things

Like, what it is

That happiness brings

Into our lives

And relationships

What makes a smile

Appear on our lips

Is it definable

Is there a rule

Maybe everyone actually already knows

Leaving me to be the fool

Who will tell, that might very well be the case

Than it sure must be amusing

Watching me chase

Some sort of guideline to help me succeed

In finding what it is that us people need

To feel satisfied and pleased with what we have

To be content with ourselves

To be carefree, to joke, to laugh

Anyhow, it’s quite a quest

Ask the unhappy ones, they know that best

Because they are the people going over these questions in their heads

It’s a pretty cruel thing,

The more you think about it, the vaguer it gets

So maybe I should just leave it with this

But not without suggesting that happiness we miss

When we realize it isn’t there

Unlike, when happiness finally obtained

We often couldn’t be less aware
