Hail August!

(sonnet # CLXXXII)

CLXXXII

Suave August saunters in quite debonair;
A sultry welcome proffers all with grace,
So blandly warm while clouds o'erspread his face.
The harvests just begun last month their share
And wealth as summer's trailing off prepare
In richer bounty for his arm's embrace;
Whilst school books tumble in the eager race
For learning to resume in his repair.
A little early for such things say you?
When summer's only one month old; we reap
Most in October or September, true?
Nor study until then? Nay, now we leap,
Just taste such sweets with him, more later through
The autumn. Hence I greet his lazy sweep.
