CLXXXV
Those summer storms when all is sultry day
And night, heat balmy resting ev'rywhere
Like heavy blankets over fevered fare,
Relief quite welcome proffer, though they stay
But briefly; each slight whispered breath its play
Of cooling air, while wafting softly, care
Dissolves in deeper sighs, as eager ere
They fade, the pris'ners find strength in their sway.
Bright jagged fingers earth-bound plunge for mere
Half-seconds; rumbles, crashes 'round nearby
In darkness premature blythe stagger here
And there; 'til patters tiptoe timid nigh:
The sky alight and lively pours in dear
Vast curtains. Then abates and leaves to dry.
