Cheeky Missy

Mid-October Day

(sonnet # CCLV)

Leaves crackle crisply underfoot or blow
In madcap races, swirling merr'ly through
The nippy air, or skitt'ring 'long, no clue
Of whither heading, while the pretty show
Their hardier fellows colourf'lly bestow
Now dances, rustling to the breezes' cue,
Translucent, casting shadows when the blue
Skies glow so clear, playing briskly in wind's flow.
O lovely Autumn day! Th'unclouded morn
Reflects quite richly azure on the mere,
So lively in the hearty air, newborn
And beautiful with greens, reds, ochres here,
A touch of purple there; all drest, half-shorn,
Delights, fall filing life with so much cheer!
