A Study in Greys? (Day 1)

(sonnet # CCLXXVIII)

The aura of today is dull, as greys
Bedim with o'ercast pall life's coloured flow.
Though Autumn paints the scene with yellow glow,
Vermilion trim, tans, varied greens' arrays
Still decking now so beautif'lly, bouquets
T'assuage the somber hues with cheerful show
Of rainbow splashes ev'rywhere, yet woe
Persists with mournful tone and all dismays.
What weighs so heavy, eh? Is't white imbues
The light, the world lacklustred-lit thereby,
And brings to mind with dismal view what brews
Through life these days? How hopeless ev'ry try,
Since vanity subdues our glories and pursues
Our steps down here? Wherefore the long-drawn sigh?
