(sonnet # CCCLXVI)
Bach calls in well-loved strains that tame, refine
The hasty moments; charm cares with that fair,
Familiar, soothing lilt, nigh plaintive where
Recorder flutes and violins combine
To contemplate a teasing thought; align
As dancers tracing patterns, with an air
Half-merry; longing linger; then repair
To join in grand finale, like fine wine?
Dear mem\'ries waft and reappear to throw
Their light on now; these notes when hope would feign
As certainty, and dreams reigned all aglow
In reach or almost so, revive that plain
Of ease, for wise reflection\'s glare? That show
Was futile. Only these sweet prompts remain?
