It was Career Day in Katie’s class.
The kids heard me talk about my daily tasks.
Katie was proud to have her daddy.
When I began to speak, she smiled so widely.
She showed me off to her classmates.
I kept my word, that’s all it takes.
A sobering thought flashed into my mind.
Some fathers don’t give of their precious time.
They’re too busy doing their own thing,
While their children are waiting and suffering.
These children grow up with a missing link,
Their father’s absent when they’re on the brink.
One boy just wanted a dad’s protection,
So he joined a gang to get a family connection.
One girl is starving for her dad’s attention,
So she’s looking for love with a pimp she trusts in.
I pray that I give my kids what they really need,
So drugs won’t destroy them, or cause them to bleed.
I pray for the children with no father’s touch,
That they know the One who loves them so much.
