The Youth

I am a member of the youth

I like tattoos & piercing & dying my hair strange colours. In a room full of wise minds I am known as “the one going through that stage.”

I am a member of the youth

I like my clothes as colourful and as bold as I am. To stand out when I walk down the street, receiving disapproving eyes and uncouth comments.

I am a member of the youth

I say what I believe and believe what I say though some try and push my voice into the dirt saying I am a part of the hooligans, the miscreants trying to cause trouble once again.

I am a member of the youth

Fighting to beat racism, sexism, homophobia, trying to preserve the planet and its precious inhabitants whilst being slandered for trying to be decent.

I am a member of the youth

And so were you.

You were a member of the youth

Were you all the same vicious youngsters that the world made you out to be? Not wise enough, not mature enough, not strong enough to know what you believe in and stand for.

You were a member of the youth

Did you express yourself in ways unknown, uncommon and only for this reason unaccepted by others because it was not how you were brought up by those around you?

You were a member of the youth

And though you have grown up and changed, your acts made you who are and there is not, nor was, nor will be, a generation that can stop that because you are made from being a member of the youth.

As a member of the youth

I will grow and develop from being the member of havoc causing scoundrels that are frowned upon by many, into an adult that I will be proud of, knowing I did what I could to become the best person that I possibly could.

So… I am a member of the youth,

 And without the youth,

There is no other generation.
