Gunpowder and Orchids

The bullets dance across my back,

The guns hide behind my teeth,

They pressed my name on a shiny new plaque,

Along with the jagged bodies that can\'t breathe.

Their eyes are too vacant to see,

Far too numb to be shocked,

Automatic flares go off every other week,

While the families are left to rot.

Outrage spreads for a day then fades,

When the idle fall into the routine of another Monday,

And our fear hides in the back of alleyways,

Until the headlines flash red,

And another 49 lie dead.

Love was coated with dust,

Their safety soaked in rust.

People gather and mourn,

While mothers and fathers are left scorned,

Hatred flowing through innocent blood,

Humanity lost in the bullets flood.
