A Strange Reflection

An emblem of oddity
Her outside reflected confidence usually unseen

Gracefully curved back of a greyhound
Long slender legs of a gazelle
Painted nails of a butterfly\'s wings
Round green eyes of a cat
Thin stick arms of a grasshopper
Small rounded ears of a mouse
Little button nose of an ermine
Tiny pointed fangs of a fox slipping over
Sable black lips of a leopard

She was a melange of colorful creatures
But always, she was human
Her eyes may be the sharp ones of a cat
But they are set into the flat face of a person
Her nails may be a painted butterfly\'s wings
But they are attached to the nimble fingers of a human
She is a person
Despite her differentness
She is a human.

She was an outcast
Because of her differentness
She was a pariah
Because she dared to be unique

She was born like that
And despite the rejection
She remained proud of herself
She embraces her differentness

When crowds jeer and laugh at her
She smiles gently and keeps walking
When people stop to stare at her
She gives them a little smirk and lets them stare
She doesn\'t care

She\'s proud of who she is
No one can change that
No one.
