Don\'t make me say come home,
One of the best things he\'s said to me, recently.
He is no poet, no flowery speeches,
In fact, mostly he avoids talking about feelings
By way of running monologues, about
Housework,
The dog,
The cat,
His mom and dad,
All the day to day things
That make up his small world.
My world,
As it turns out, is expansive,
So many places I will go,
And things I will see
But all I want to do,
More often than not,
Is go home.
So tonight,
I call and say come here,
And he says
Don\'t make me say come home.
His simple phrases
Dig trenches in my heart
And fill them up with oceans,
Knowing I am so loved.
Someday,
When I have seen all there is to see,
And am done doing what I need to do,
I will go home.
I can\'t wait.
