The Cave (Based on Plato\'s Allegory of the Cave)

A cave,

Warm orange and yellow flames

Behind a court of jesters.

They dance and they sing

While we all go to shit.

Devoured by foolishness and ignorance,

We weep for our lost humanity.

A boy awakens,

A man awakens.

Walls of perception are shattered; doors are opened.

Rock crumbles and the man leaves.

He leaves his grotto, but the sunlight blinds him.

His eyes hurt. All of his eyes hurt.

A world of color. Of light, not shadows.

Of beauty and laughter.

He thinks of the jesters, of the rock.

He goes back to find them.

As he enters the cave, he is blinded once again.

He finds them, but all they see is a madman. He sees nothing.

They beat him; they take his soul. He sees nothing.

The man emerges from the cave,

Alone.
