Sleepily and stubborn we awake in early hours,
Despite snow rain or storm, we must be tough,
We march to our schools,
Told you’re not good enough, not clever enough,
Your hope and spirit removed,
School is rough.
In school individuality is removed,
You must all look the same,
From your hair to your shoes,
You are commanded what to do,
And no matter how difficult,
You must do it on cue,
School is tedious.
Work is given in school for home and in holiday,
No matter hour, day or occasion,
It disturbs sleep, family and play,
Friends are forgotten and hobbies are given up,
School criticizes what we do,
From relationships to make up,
And if our work isn’t good enough we must start anew,
School is tough.
Each day gets longer,
Each lesson gets harder,
Each teacher gets harsher,
Test scores dampen hope,
And when exams come we cannot cope,
Stress levels rise,
No matter how hard we try,
Tears fill our eyes,
Yet school still fills us with lies.
