the big red chair

THE LAST DAY

the last day

I tried it on. Rather, it tried me
Still a bad fit
I wavered clumsily
Thinking I might squeeze in
Or thinking I might not at all
The frock maketh the man
Pride goeth, before the fall.

Hail the last day for all, the hoary savages say
Don\'t bother with rosebuds
The thief points both ways
Appraise what you will
And foresee as you might
\'Tis the tick of this moment
That fills men with light

Then envisage an era of heroic deeds
When a derelict soul
Can once again heed
And give chase to the bounty
So fast ticked away
There shall be no regret
On the very last day
