That\'s Amore

I think you know when you’re really truly in love, when you want to do everything with your girl,

Like there are so many endless possibilities of things to do, it kind of makes your head swirl,

Like she has never seen Rocky, so you just have to show her 1,2,3,4,5 and 6,

And you want to watch her face light up at the motivational scenes and cry at all the emotional bits.

You want to watch all the blockbusters that you ever missed,

And you would even be happy to watch a few chick flicks.

And she says she likes Dean Martin and you can’t believe it, because you do too.

So you walk down the street with the clouds at your feet, ‘That’s Amore’, and you just don’t know what to do.

And you pick up your guitar which you haven’t touched in years,

It wasn’t worth learning anything before but it is now if it’s for her ears.

And you haven’t written any poems for ages,

But for her you are moved to write so many pages.

It somehow seems easy to write her sonnets and odes,

She fills your heart with so much inspiration you can produce loads.

Before, writing a poem was painful; it was hard and took so much of your time,

Whereas now everything flows so natural, the whole world just seems to rhyme.

You want to just share everything with her, things that make you laugh, and smile, and makes you feel all warm and nice,

Because when you share beautiful things with her it’s like you experience it twice,

You love it because you love it yourself, and you love it because she loves it too,

And you feel a kind of satisfaction that that she got to love that thing because of you.

You send her YouTube clips of things that are funny,

And all of a sudden you even have a new attitude about money.

Before you didn’t really care, but now if you get any spare, that’s something that with her you wants to share.

And if you get a surplus, you have more than you thought in your account,

You want to spend it on her because she’s worth such a substantial amount.

But more than money on her you want to spend your time,

Because from now on wasting moments without her is a crime.

You want to rush out the office as soon as it hits Five,

Because you want to make the most of being alive.

And there are so many places you want to take her, so many places to go.

Some places that are obvious others that only you know.

Like the wine bar you love where you can drink under the stars,

And the more you drink and get merry on a clear night you can see up to Mars.

She loves Italian food so you want to take her to your favourite Restaurants and Pizzerias,

The fancy ones in the West End or the smaller family run Trattorias.

You want to sip cool cocktails in the summer and mulled wine in December,

You hope these moments she\'ll savour and always remember.

You want to be there to share in her highs and lows,

Her ups and down, ‘bad’s’ and ‘good’s’, the \'yes\'s\' and the \'No\'s\',

And any advice you can give her you will gladly impart,

Anything to help her and give comfort to her heart.

And all of this, the above that I have written,

Really is just a tiny tiny smidgen,

There are so many things you want to do it’s impossible to mention,

You truly do want to give her all your love and attention,

Through the good, the bad, the ugly, the beautiful. All of that with her you want to share,

You want to be her hero, not by being superman, but just by simply loving her and by just being there.

And despite idyllic fantasies, you inwardly know the truth,

You will not be able to do everything, time will pass and eventually you will both lose your youth.

But you hope and pray, that when it comes to that day,

She will be by your side, when you’re old and grey.

And you will still love each other the same anyway,

And you will turn to her and say....

\'Remember when we were young and we went to that amazing show,

And I took you to that Pizzeria, where you always wanted to go,

And all those times we went to our favourite bars,

Remember my favourite wine bar, where we drank under the stars?

And remember when I wrote you that poem, and played you that song,

And remember when we’d just listen to Dean Martin, and sing along,

Remember I made you watch Rocky, 1,2,3,4,5 and 6,

And we were inspired by the motivational scenes and cried at the emotional bits,

Remember I used to rush out of the office every day at Five,

To come and be with you because you made me feel so alive.\'

But you know that one day, she just simply might not remember,

She may forget the cocktails in the summer and the mulled wines in December.

It breaks your heart to think this one day could be the case,

But you take solace in the one saving grace.

That those things did happen. They meant something and were real.

And even if she forgets what you said, what you did, or where you went, if you love her right she won’t ever forget how you made her feel.
