A Smoldering Refrain

Straddling the candle,

too close to the flame

A fiery benediction,

—a smoldering refrain

(Grantham New Hampshire: February, 2017)

      Another’s Contraband

Do you play inside the Corn Flakes,

or are corn stalks more you game

Is that Hersey Bar the answer,

or the cocoa or cocaine

Do you clerk for someone’s feelings,

inspiration all be damned,

Your legacy an afterthought,

—of another’s contraband

(Grantham New Hampshire: February, 2017)

     Only What Is

You can’t alter reality

with an opinion

You can’t alter reality

with a drug

To alter reality you must force

time upon itself

Defining the indefinable,

—leaving only what is

(Grantham New Hampshire: February, 2017)

   Your Children

When playing with

  the word never

Your children hold

  the only trump card

(Grantham New Hampshire: February, 2017)
