Miss Daisy

Growing old

Once upon a time I had a life,
Filled with children\'s laughter and learning.
Once upon a time I had a family,
And a fire inside me burning.

I was fun, slim and fit,
Full of joy and wit,
Straight white teeth and a lovely complexion,
No wrinkles, aching joints or infections.

To you pretty young things,
May I give some advice,
Live your lives to the full,
Don\'t waste them, think twice.
For tomorrow comes speeding along to your door,
Before you realise it, you\'ll be sixty-four.

Children all gone, aches, pains and night sweats,
Hobbling around and worry about debts,
Left all alone, good friends all passed on.
Just surviving, no life left and wishing you were gone.
