Shards of Rain

When raindrops

plummet to earth

and gravity pulls them down

to the soft, lush grass

of meadows

they make no splash

no plop

But when they hit the concrete

of which man has created

they shatter into millions of shards

and scatter over the solid ground

And I often wonder

why they were chosen

to possess this cruel fate

when their purpose was to simply

feed the green and growing world around them

Even that

has been taken from them.
