A Letter To My Best Friend Freshman Year That Decided Not To Return

Thank you.

I have been running so many things through my mind and the thought of you leaving is killing me. I never thought coming into this that I would meet someone so quickly and that they would be such a big part of my life. It has been a full school year and I consider you one of the best friends I have made in my life, which is why it is so hard to watch you leave. I am beginning to realize that this journey wasn\'t for you and that you had to make the decision to leave to better yourself. I can\'t help thinking that there is something I could\'ve done to help, but I know you clocked out way faster than you would\'ve if you weren\'t giving up. So as we begin to realize the first year is coming to an end, I am realizing this part of your life is about to end. I need you to know a few things even if it is hard for me to express it:

You are still my forever friend. Our lives are going to drift apart, but I will never forget you. I will always be routing for you even when I am not sure what I am routing for. I want the best for you and I hope you feel the same way. I hope this friendship doesn\'t end, but if it does, just know that I will never not love you like my brother.

I am happy for you. I am definitely not going to cheer you on as you leave campus for the last time, but I will be supporting you. I am happy that you are making the decision to do what you need to do before it gets too hard to quit. I am happy that you are really considering your options and going for something you really want and will be doing something that makes you happy.

Lastly, just know that whatever is going on will figure itself out. There are probably things you are contemplating as you try to evaluate what is right for you and I promise that there is somewhere you are meant to be, even if it isn\'t PT or baseball. I can guarantee that you will find that thing that makes you happy and you will stick to it, and I can\'t wait to see what it is.

So as I end this I am just going to remind you of the challenges coming your way, but the realization that you can do anything you set your mind to. I am sorry that this isn\'t the life you want to live anymore and even though I wish you could stay here forever, I know that your time here is cut short for the better. I am happy I had this short amount of time to make you into a high quality friend. I can\'t stress enough how much you will be missed, but I am happy you are doing what you need to do. Wherever this crazy life takes us, I hope you stay in it. Thank you for being such a good friend and making my freshman year great.
