Dated and stated ~ antiquated
The facts are true ~ or perhaps they\'re fabled ?
Shards of exquisite pottery
Assembled ~ glued into a Greek amphora
Would Socrates its form & function verify ?
Or Plato recognise its aura ?
CHILDREN look bored ~ as case by case they pause
Only the daggers and the swords entrall
The weapons ~ that speak of distant wars
The wars that deskbound Generals never saw !
The Mummies bound in their sarcophagi
Lie motionless another thousand years
Forgotten as each decade passes by
The \"Mummy\'s Curse\" embodies all our fears !
Suits of Armour ~ Paintings by the score
Are side by side with sculptures ~ marble wrought
In cases in the basement ~ there are more
And year on year some new Antiques are bought !
MUSEUMS ~ antiquarians delight
The provenance of each item researched
Sometimes they ~ don\'t even get it right
So they resign ~ their expertise besmirched !
