You Never Knew Your Name

Just a whisper in the night that no one hears.
For a moment your cries breaks the silence and then disappears.

If only one chance with one word to give,
to a life that was given, but never to live,

I would breathe out your name with all of my sorrow,
to the child in my arms, knowing there were no promises of tomorrow.

Just a prayer in the night when all went wrong,
You had a name, and you did belong.
