Again to Love

We each may come,
softly
again to love
As when full grown a man returns
to fields he knew as a child
And finds his footfall follows easily what was a well worn path.
Perhaps will come again to love, to that in which love abides
Like a veteran wheeling himself to the side of a pitch
where victories were his before a war.
Or like an old man remembering from the foot the glorious view from a hill he can no longer climb.
We come perhaps again to love
when it\'s absence and time have changed us,
so that our love is out of rhythm,
like a ghost that can not find it\'s rest
or touch the world.
