1. Paul to the Thessalonians
Wrote to them, they the ones
Commended for their faith, love, hope
Along their upward slope
2. Their slope in following the Lord
Adhering to his word
Through troubles, opposition too
They held to their Lord true
3. Thus thanks and praises mentioned there
For their work of faith fair
And labour of love, diligent
Patience of hope, content
4. So these things did they witness sure
In Christ their Saviour pure
And in the sight of God, who saw
Their good words, deeds, e\'ermore
5. And so the gospel to them came
Its message e\'er the same
Came not only in word alone
Its power too was known
6. And too it was shared fervently
With hearts assuredly
Confident made by God\'s Spirit
Not omitting one whit
7. They turned to God, from idols turned
And from Him they had learned
Of Christ who lived, died, rose again
Saviour now for all men [mankind]
