My first born
A baby girl just arrived in this world
Her cry is different
So is her appearance
My world stopped in that split second
A Down syndrome child
How could this be
It was never noticed throughout the pregnancy
Grief has taken over
The ‘perfect’ child lost
New challenges ahead
How am I to cope
But I see things differently
In a new light
Nineteen years have gone by
She has her own life
All grown up with a job on the side
But still full of innocence with a childlike mind
So full of love
There’s no room for hate
But her mind works differently
Sometimes she can struggle to make sense
There are still challenges at times
But I’ve learnt so much
Patience I’ve gained and unconditional love
Nineteen years later
I would never change her
She’s my perfect child
I’ll never leave her
