SheWasTheSun

Unspoken

Strangled screams and hopeless pleas

Carefree songs and righted wrongs

Every cry, every wish

Not one breath is worth the risk

So all remain unspoken

The weight of words

Is a hefty load

A speech unheard

A story untold

They press on the shoulders

And they shake your fragile bones

Just when you think it’s over

The words turn to stone

It must be getting close

You can’t carry any more

This is nothing that you chose

An unused throat so very sore

But the stones keep on pelting

And your lungs fill to the brim

Your heart has stopped beating

And the words are in your skin

You’re bursting at the seams

With the ugliest of truths

Jagged edges cut you clean

And the words, they take your youth

You cough up broken promises

And choke on well-intentioned lies

The words, becoming prominent

Are stuck between the lines

Don’t let them hear your call

Sew closed your rebel lips

Once you start, they’ll hear it all

They’ll throw their stones and sticks

Every plan that you hold close

Every dream you dare to believe

Every thought that ebbs and flows

Not a single one will leave

They will keep you up at night

They will leave you feeling broken

It will use up all your might

To leave the words unspoken
