The Kiss

The first kiss

Heart beating uncontrollably

Breath catching in the throat

Fingers clammy, legs shaking

Not knowing how, but bravely

With red face, using tongue

The languid kiss

Holding her head tenderly

Looking deep into

Her beautiful eyes

Knowing certainty that this

Woman will be his wife

The hurried kiss

Struggling into the coat

The baby crying

Have to get to work

Brushing lips, quickly

On the way out the door

The last kiss

Holding her gnarled hands

Saying goodbye with our eyes

Bending down slowly

Putting our faces together

With lips softly touching eternity
