Twilight

I venture below as the wooden floor creaks beneath me

Surrounded by nothingness and filled with emptiness

Raising my lamp, a ray of light pierces through the darkness

Revealing to me a blood and tear stained wall upon my heart

Etchings of what came before, infinitely consuming my being

The Night swiftly chains me and extinguishes all hope

My will, now grown sullen, tarries awaiting the abyss of despair

Panicked, I force myself to rip away from the phantoms

And begin sprinting through the looping corridor

Until somehow unimaginably I face a dead end

A crooked dream, now nightmare, as I turn and face

The monster unshackled, my eternal shadow to which I\'m bound

It\'s skin bearing reflections, it serves, no it is my Past

Now the millionth time I had been cornered by the beast

So far, it had claimed me as its own, caging any fluttering future

Instead, I reach out and grasp it, all of it and everything

The frost creeping up my mind, the shadows trailing close behind, the questions with answers I cannot find, and the sins to which I must bind

A fire explodes, burning away the pages that I sought

For me, an ashen grave left to remember on the paths of time

The Door finally appears

I step through and simply behold
