My Monster

I have a strange monster,

And he is my furry friend.

He will be by my side,

Always, and until the end.

My monster is different

Than you may have thought or think.

He can change his size and sometimes

He can be blue, charcoal, or pink.

My monster is a special one.

He holds onto me real tight.

Sometimes he even makes me cry,

Alone and in the night.

My monster chains me up,

And leaves me tied to bed.

My monster, I\'ve oft been told,

\"Is only in my head\".

My monster is often quiet,

But can sometimes be REAL loud.

He likes to hold me super tight!

Especially in a crowd.

My monster likes to come with me

And even hold my hand.

My monster likes to make me cry.

He thinks it\'s all quite grand.

My monster likes to lie to me,

And tell me I\'m the worst.

 Sometimes I believe my monster,

And that\'s what really hurts.

My monster takes a perfect day

And turns it into muck.

My monster is full of rocks you see,

And wires and nails and gunk.

You do not even see my monster,

But I promise you he\'s there.

He\'s telling me how silly I am

That I talk to just thin air.

Did you know you have one too?

He may be different than mine.

Your monster may be super real,

And you may get along just fine.

Sometimes monsters are different,

And they like to break your bones.

Sometimes your monster is invisible,

And may often leave you alone.

Sometimes monsters kill,

And sometimes they hurt real bad.

Sometimes monsters are just nightmares,

And failures you wish you hadn\'t had.

But my monster is always by me,

And even though I try to block him out,

He\'ll always be there lurking,

Even if I kick him out.

Sometimes people tell me

My monster is not a problem at all.

Sometimes they don\'t understand,

My monster is my wall.

My monster has a name,

Though you may laugh, it\'s true!

His name can be Depression,

Does that sound right to you?

Sometimes he\'s called Anxiety,

And sometimes he\'s just called \"Sick\".

Sometimes he\'s always there,

And at times he hides real quick.

Your monster may be called Sadness

Or maybe just a Bad Day.

But my monster is an illness,

And he won\'t just \"go away\".

Thanks for meeting my monster.

I hope you\'ll understand,

That\'s why I\'m always missing,

Or why I won\'t raise my hand.

Please forgive my monster,

He doesn\'t mean to scare.

But he is mine and I am his

And I\'m sorry he\'s always there.

But that is who we are,

And I wish that I could change.

But I can\'t you see, he\'s with me,

And I know that that is strange.

Good luck with your own monsters,

I can help when I am able.

Isn\'t it just nice to know,

That our monsters can be relate-able?
