It was never what it seemed.
By Dave Begley
You won\'t remember being born,
Or the smile upon my face,
Or how I held you in my arms,
And my heart began to race.
You won\'t remember my feeding you,
Or singing you to sleep,
Or just staring at you in your cot,
With a love so strong and deep.
You may remember story times,
When I put you into bed,
And how we set off to the moon,
From a rocket in the shed.
You don\'t know why I left you,
It was so you would never see,
Mam and daddy arguing,
It\'s not how it should have to be.
So We live apart which killed me,
Two years I cried my heart away,
Your mum would make things awkward,
But I would never ever say.
Daddy\'s made the bad guy,
He left your mum and you,
But it\'s never true what they say,
Daddy just looked out for you.
So as you grow and realise that money is the key,
You need something to go somewhere,
And mammy says ask me,
Everything you ever needed,
you had from Mam and Dad,
But because you thought it santa,
You think from dad you never had,
Every night I had a phone call,
From Mam or one of you,
You\'re all at each other\'s throats,
What\'s dad supposed to do?
You leave home in an argument,
You\'re never going back,
You come to stay at dads house,
With your clothes all in a sack.
Then Mam will get her claws in,
And off you go back home,
Not a thought is left for dad,
His heart has just been torn.
Whenever you need money,
Daddy\'s phone will always ring,
But Father\'s Day and birthdays,
Nothing would you bring.
So dad\'s reward for loving you,
Is to smash his heart in two,
But no matter what you\'ve done,
Dad will always still love you.
