Up by six we had to be as there were 8 of us,
Parents off to work and 6 kids to ride the bus,
To me, it started off like any other day,
On the bus I got, and headed on my way.
A little after 8, sick to my stomach I got,
The nurse had me lie down, on a little cot.
My Uncle Chuck came in, and startled me awake,
Not for me, but my Cousin Roger he did take.
Mrs. Woodworth told me that everything\'s okay,
So I just kept on going, on my merry way.
Mischievous I was, and sometimes I would roam,
Going off somewhere, instead of going home.
I went bowling because I knew my Sisters were there,
I took off and bowled, walked home and didn\'t care.
When I turned the corner, and saw my parent\'s car,
I knew I had to Pray, to the brightest Star!
Dad took me to my room, and set me on the bed.
Grabbed me by the shoulders, and really shook my head.
I told him untruths and he knew that I had lied,
Just then he told me that my Grandmother had died!
I remember to this day, the supper I was fed.
I didn\'t want to eat, all I wanted was my bed.
It was chipped beef gravy on toast, with some little peas,
I didn\'t have an appetite, and it didn\'t really appease.
I look back and sadly, I had to ask \"Which one?\"
And not to my surprise, fallen tears had all begun.
I didn\'t want my Grandma dead, I wish instead was me,
Not my Grandma Emma, but precious Grandma Dessie!
You have read her name, in poems I wrote before,
It still hurts so deep inside, right down to the core!
