Accidental Poet

‘Scuse Me

As the radiant sun drops

Below the distant horizon

And stars slowly brighten

Upon them I kept my eyes on

A twinkle here

A sparkle there

All to provoke

The smile I’m inclined to wear

For the beauty of the night sky

Upon my soul a magnetic pull

Such as the tug from a lunar friend

Every month a moon so full

Across the Milky Way

The life that might exist

I want to believe

In evidence we may have missed

And there, a shooting star

A meteor from only God knows where

Entranced with mouth agape

All I can do is stare

For if I could reach out my hand

And touch this cosmos miracle

My fingers blessed with

Fitting words so lyrical

This wondrous starlight view

There before my eye

Think I’ll quote an old Rock & Roller

“’Scuse me while I kiss the sky”
