Accidental Poet

CAUTION: CONSTRUCTION ZONE

CAUTION: CONSTRUCTION ZONE

Watch your step

You’re entering a hazardous area

Work gloves and hard hat required

You’ll have to speak up as I can hardly hear ya

A bulldozer clears the space

Subject matter is the cement foundation

Words form the framework

As the crane lowers an idea creation

I’m building a poem

A letter here, a vowel there

Adjectives, verbs, and nouns

A combination lyrically shared

Use that tape measure

Calculate how many syllables per line

Sanded down to flow smoothly

Coming along just fine

Measure twice

And cut once

No time for mistakes

And costing extra months

Swing that hammer

Push and pull that saw

The strangest construction zone

Mike Holmes ever saw

If OSHA wants to inspect

They’ll be welcomed with open arms

No on the job accidents here

No need for union alarm

Words strategically placed

Structured with poetic rhyme

Construction budget on course

Project completed on time
