there is the faintest change
in that smile
an alteration
in the skin perhaps
or some trick of the eye
played out by light
there is something not right
in those eyes
a fading in their colour
it is not the mistake of the beholder
some change in the viewer
there is something so undefined
yet so utter in evidence
the picture I once looked upon
is no longer there
