Accidental Poet

The Written Word

Here I go thinking again

I’ve been looking through

My writings of pleasure and pain

Looking at all the sources of my inspiration

Just fine tuning my heart

Like a radio station

Sometimes pouring out a lyrical rhyme

I’ll remember writing it

But can’t believe it’s mine

Never a student of the written word

Suddenly I’ve a new fascination

In heart whispers I’ve heard

To express my feelings in a creative lyrical way

A journey through the pages of my heart

To better know myself everyday

And why is it, a man is not supposed to cry?

Is a man only a man,

If the pull of gravity he can deny?

Love, the greatest emotion known on Earth

Be it there in your heart,

You’ll know of self worth

The gift of God is in love to explore

But beware for therein lives

Heartache and happiness forevermore

In a broken heart there’s a lesson to be learned

Within your heart lives a love so deep

Keep it close until it’s earned

Find no bitterness in tears you’ve tasted

Perseverance will teach you

Never are your tears really wasted

I may never know how my words compare

To that of a professional poet

Not that I don’t care

I only know how I feel when a poem is done

With a smile in my heart

A little healing has begun
