These days
A child grows up too fast
All too soon your days
Have run from first to last
For life is too short
Especially when we’re young
And childhood is the sweetest
Where you learn to have fun
All too often
We teach the little ones
To act like us adults
Cuteness overload reruns
But blind are we
We who always look back
Must we steal their childhood?
The one they’ll lack
Let them play
Let their dreams run free
For them to make memories
From climbing a tree
For they need to play
With childhood toys
Of baby dolls and Tonka Trucks
For all the girls and boys
Please don’t make them
Grow up too soon
Keep their eyes Earthbound
Before they shoot for the Moon
Let them be ghosts and witches
Goblins and Ghouls for Halloween
When crazy laughing
Turns to a lavish scream
Let them have a childhood
Like most of us did
Even if you didn’t
Let them be a kid
