When I step from my shadow, I am revealed by the light;
It tries to with draw my curtain and blind my sight;
I diminish its comforts that pry without right;
And offer my body to be devoured by night.
Darkness is my safe;
Wrapped in a quilt,
Enveloped in the arms of a warm embrace.
They try to reach from the light and save me from what I already escaped;
They try to drag me back to the place I am chased;
While holding a flashlight up to my face,
They perfect all my scars, that show of my race.
I am perfect in their eyes now;
But inside I am a shard of glass,
A chipped reflection, a fragment of light,
For without darkness I am candle that cannot ignite.
