In the early morning
While in awe of the sunrise
You begin to see
The wonder of your eyes
They might be green
Or they might be blue
And they might be brown
But still they belong to you
They say the eyes are
The window to the soul
But only through the heart
Can you pay the toll
The eyes see the sunshine
And you know they see the rain
When the rain comes not from the sky
The result of too much pain
Can’t even begin to guess
How many times you blink
And to the small child
You playfully gave a wink
The eyes also see beauty
Beauty in many forms
Evidenced by a baby’s face
And the smile you have worn
Gaze up at the evening sky
Treat yourself to the twinkling stars
A poetic cosmic gift
Of Jupiter, Venus and Mars
And when the day is done
Bedtime is near you realize
Remember all the things you see
Before you close your eyes
