An Idle Day

I’m here on my own, by myself, all alone

A change to my usual routine.

I can do what I like for the next few hours

Don’t have to answer the phone.

What shall I do with these precious hours

Time that’s been given me free,

Take a walk, see a friend,

Or perhaps read a book,

Paint a picture or watch a good film.

The house seems so quiet, I’m not sure I like it,

And now it’s beginning to rain,

I should have gone out before writing these lines

And now I have left it too late;

The motto of this is to do what you can

While you can, and not waste your time.

For we’re not here for long

And time marches on

Back to routine tomorrow.
