Outstretched

There is a parrot
Perched on my outstretched arm.
It\'s stormy feathers are dull,
Dull to add nothing too exciting
To my painfully
Average life.

Yet my eyes
My inexperienced eyes,
Try desperately to search
For any hint of a shine
That could be the
Change
To my painfully
Average life.

The golden coin of faith
Disappears over the horizon,
But returns again in the east
Again and again.
And my inexperienced eyes
Grow tired,
Frustrated
At this dull parrot
Perched on my outstretched arm.

Because in the dark pit of
Common sense,
I know that I need to take
My outstretched arm
Away.
To let this dull parrot fly away

And free myself

From the pain of its talons;
My skin scarlet, so similar to
The scarlet of its tail feathers.
The pain of its eyes
That with every flash of sight
My own inexperienced eyes
Again cling on
Foolishly
To any hint of
A shine to its dull feathers
Just like the way
Despite the dark pit of
Common sense,
My arm remains
Outstretched.
