If it had not been the LORD who
Was on our side, what could we do?
When men rose up against us here
Oppressing harsh your people deear
Then they would have swallowed us quick
Our lives desolate, our hearts sick
For their wrath to us directed
Was, unto us, your elected
Then waters they would us have drowned
And we should have been overwhelmed
Proud waters of men gone o\'er our soul
We would be left bereft, unwhole
But you LORD helped us, to our aid
Came, assured, not to be afraid
Blessed be your name, we not a prey
Were not to them given away
Our soul escaped is as a bird
God has done great things, all have heard
Yes, we are escaped from the snare
And we do prosper and well fare
Mounting with wings we fly once more
The snare is broken, troubles sore
We have escaped, have freedom found
The LORD our help is, praise redound
