False Origins

Here stand I,
Alone at the edge.
A dark blanket above and below,
A pearly eye;
A winking sky,
The world a stranger to me
As I watch the sea.

Like prison bars,
Glinting golden lights,
Of foreign cities on all sides.
Above me, the stars;
The velvet dark,
A warm friend to me,
It beckons me toward the sea.
