Nocturnal Inspirations

In the midnight hour

When all is still

Life around me sleeps

The moon and stars

On my heart they pull

And tonight slumber

Not yet ready for my dreams

Though I yawn

And long for my pillow’s comfort

Nocturnal inspirations

Venture out through me

I know not what it may be

Or where they lead

But surely, I’m enslaved

To a force more awake than I

A voice from within

Maybe too shy for the light of day

Or just coincidence of come what may

For I can only presume

Something of importance must come forth

And once put down in prose

It’s then I offer up which kept me awake

And then released to my own self

I find slumber is now patiently waiting

And I must not resist

As now dreams of my love

Pull on my lonely heart for her
