There I was
On my round,
Collecting rent,
From all around.
Knocking on doors,
A smile,
A ‘Good Morning’
A “Where’s your rent?’
Most paid happily,
Some offered me tea,
One offered cake.
Then came the day
As I approached a door
A coffin was carried out,
I knocked on the coffin,
But no answer
Came the stern reply,
So I immediately
Put him into arrears.
