Little Anole Lizard
He was an anole I was told
And he was a special case
He could turn grey or brown
With a dewlap he could inflate
He caught crickets and spiders
And was a welcomed guest
He spent time in potted plants
Where he could hide and rest
The cat was his chief concern
And opposed with tooth and claw
He was the enemy the anole had learned
And pounced on ones he saw
Birds also searched for him
And were a danger too
The anole usually got away
Being still without a move
When the birds and cat were gone
His dewlap he inflated
It was a beautiful red in the sun
And he proudly demonstrated
