Startled from sound sleep
My morning alarm on time
A slow exit from bed
My awake state drags behind
I feel the pull
Of a warm and comfy bed
It says, “Come back you work dog”
“Come back and rest your head”
But reluctantly
I must resist
For a productive day waits
And the rising sun persists
Breath in, breath out
One foot in front of the other
Look to the left and right
Steer myself like a rudder
Now I’m on my way
Too late for turning back
Just keep repeating
I’ve gotta stay on this track
So on to the work day
We’re in the groove
Like a well oiled machine
Everything running smooth
Suddenly a catastrophe
The shit hits the fan
Somebody dropped the ball
And we’ll fix it if we can
A shift here
And a change there
A quick fix complete
Now a smile everyone wears
And before long
Days end in sight
I love a productive day
But home feels oh so right
