The Inventor

Sitting at the kitchen table

With his head in his hand

Worried that he was unable

To go ahead as planned

The pieces of his invention

Were cluttering up the space

He did not have the vision

Was tired of the chase

But then he had a thought

His face began to smile

It was not all for naught

It was about changing style

He had to re-invent himself

Find out who he could be

Put his ego on the shelf

Try out a different key

If the old ways do not work

Better to try something new

Instead of going berserk

And maybe a little bit crazy too

The most important thing

Is to think outside the box

To see what it would bring

To consider his own paradox

If my reasoning is sound

And not influenced by my mind

I will never again be bound

Marveling at what I may find

Not letting the past hold me back

Putting myself into the here and now

Disregarding what I may lack

Boldly going ahead anyhow

Will open up the whole wide world

Take away the clutter in my head

Confirm what I had previously heard

Affirm what I had previously read

Never again will I be a slave

To limitations of my own

No, I can be bold and brave

In ways I had not known

The beauty of this re-invention

Is so easy now for me to see

I can go ahead without pretention

And re-assemble my new me
