Gravity

It was raining when I first heard you were coming.
\"A rogue planet\" the news reporters said,
\"drifting so close to Earth, they might just collide!\"

I had to see you for myself.

It was fate, you see.
fate, that you drifted carelessly across the galaxy,
for uncounted years,
only to cross paths with me, at a single point in time,
in a single place,
amidst the infinite void.

I felt your gravity before you ever entered our solar system.
I was drawn to you, like a raindrop pulled to Earth.

My friends and neighbors warned me,
\"Stay away!\"
\"She\'ll be the death of you!\"
But fate, as it turns out, is inescapable.
Like a black hole.

So I stood on the Event Horizon, and waited for you,
and long after everyone I knew had hid away in their bunkers,
you finally arrived.

Your brilliance outshone the Sun.
Your beauty took the very breath from the Earth itself.
You burned across the sky, and turned the world upside down.

And then you left, as quickly as you came.

But you never returned my breath to me,
and so I lay on the scorched earth, alone.
And I suffocated in your wake,
crushed by your gravity.

But I knew this would happen.
For I was a hopeless man, and you were a beautiful disaster.
And fate, as it turns out, is inescapable.
