Folk Song
I want to write a folk song
With hounds on the porch
And moonshine passed there along
With no need to recork
I’ll write in the rocking chair
As if I were very old
And with a pipe in my mouth
My story will unfold
My song will be simple
with simple music played
And they’ll perk up when they hear
The lyrics that I say
I’ll enjoy a home-made meal
With dishes of all types
I’ll try to remember each of them
And savor every bite
I want a song one can sing along
And that simple folks can enjoy
No hip-hop or hard rock bands for me
Its fiddles i’ll employ
My song will play on the radio
And one Saturday i’ll listen in
To hear the top forty count down
And my little song therein
